Patient Care Technician

Become part of the patient care field!

This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the nursing assistant. Curriculum includes, but is not limited to, the following major skill areas: communication and interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, wellness and disease concepts, safety and security procedures, response to emergency situations, personal patient care services and procedures, nutrition, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, EKG, phlebotomy, computer skills, and employability skills. Classroom and clinical experience are incorporated into the curriculum.

Students completing the program can be employed as advanced cross-trained nursing assistants (patient care technicians), health care technicians, patient care assistants, nursing aides and orderlies, home health aides, phlebotomists, electrocardiograph aides, or allied health assistants. Graduates may be employed in hospitals, nursing homes, home health care and other health care centers and are eligible to apply for and take the Florida State Nursing Assistant Certification Examination – Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Examination. In addition, the student can take the certification examination for Patient Care Technician.
