Surgical Technology
1330 hrs
The Surgical Technology program prepares students for employment as surgical technologists. Included are the following major areas of training: communication and interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, aseptic techniques, patient care procedures, surgical technology procedures, patient safety, use and care of equipment and supplies, CPR, employability skills, and basic computer literacy.
The Surgical Technology program prepares students for employment in the operating room, central supply, ambulatory surgical centers, and physicians’ offices. Students are introduced to the surgical area early in the program. Students must be able to stand for long hours and work in an atmosphere that is often charged with pressure and urgency. Knowledge of, and experience with, aseptic techniques qualify surgical technicians to prepare instruments and materials for use at the operating table and to assist in their use with skill and dexterity. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists.
